Computer Rentals- Who Needs Them

Renting computers is a viable alternative to buying new systems. It is not always the best option and people should assess their needs carefully before opting for computer rentals. Renting computers is usually most beneficial when they are rented in bulk. Computer rentals work best in the following cases.

Presenters at Trade shows

Trade shows are important to promote businesses and products, and to generate leads and connections. It is impractical to carry sensitive equipment across the country whenever you have to attend a trade show. Computer equipment and its accessories are heavy and breakable; transporting them is quite a risky affair. In such a situation, rentals are ideal for trade show presenters. Rental providers are obligated to manage the logistics and will deliver the rented equipment to the location of your trade show.

New companies and start-ups usually so not have the resources or capital to purchase high-end computers in bulk. Most of these businesses also have specific software and hardware requirements and buying new systems whenever upgrades are released is almost impossible. For entrepreneurs, computer rentals provide the best solution. They can rent computer systems in bulk at reasonable prices for their offices. Rental providers also offer the latest equipment along with technical support allowing new businesses to obtain the latest systems and troubleshooting help. Computer rental providers also offer to customize the systems according to their clients' wishes. Once the business has broken even and has started generating profits, entrepreneurs can buy computers.

Relocation Phase

Growing businesses often need to change offices and this can disrupt important business activities. Moving all computer systems and associated gadgets can take time and workers cannot remain idle throughout this period. Businesses can opt for computer rentals till they have relocated completely to ensure that relocation does not affect the business. Rental providers even offer other equipment like printers, modems, scanners, copiers, etc. for rent.

iPad Rentals for Education

We've mentioned a time or two the appeal of tablets in education, and it seems that students and their parents have seen it too.

There's new figures suggesting that tablets--specifically Apple's iPad--are 'cannabalizing' PC sales in the K-12 market.  In other words, iPad sales are outpacing those of PCs, reportedly for the first time in history.

This conclusion was reached by popular tech site, Apple Insider, who sited the steady Mac sales at around 520,000 units in the midst of declining PC sales from 1.90 million to 1.64 million, writing: "...we believe the inescapable conslusion is that the iPad is beginning to cannibalize a material portion of PC sales in this market."

Last quarter, Apple broke its own record selling 20 million iPads after hitting 11.8 million in 1Q. So the devices are not only exceeding PC sales, but Macs as well.

Apple Insider further notes that twice as many iPads have been sold over Macs to students and schools.

For those school districts who have not fully invested in the tablets for permanent use, but only use them when it is of an imminent benefit for special projects or needs, opting for iPad rentals has continued to be an attractive option among educators.

Dedicated Server Rentals

A small business starts out with a basic website which attracts a few dozen visitors. In such cases, shared web hosting is enough but as the business grows, so does the website. An interactive, informative and visually appealing website is needed to attract a large number of visitors, which is important for a business to grow. High-traffic websites, with many dynamic software components, placed in shared servers are usually slow, unstable and unreliable. Growing businesses are better off using dedicated server rentals instead.

In a shared server, websites from different clients are placed in a single server unit that are separated by virtual walls. In dedicated servers only a single company's resources and website is stored. Although renting a dedicated server is more expensive than sharing a server, the benefits far outweigh the extra cost.

A business can customize a dedicated server according to their needs by installing specific applications and operating system, which cannot be done on shared servers. Also shared servers are unreliable due to the different websites and applications loaded which can cause unexpected downtimes. In a dedicated server optimization, load and security is the responsibility of the company that rented it, so the server can be modified to increase reliability and reduce downtimes. Another plus point is that a dedicated server will not have to share its bandwidth with other clients. As a result, a website will be able to handle a large number of visitors as the server can process a large number of requests at top speeds.

The best advantage of placing a website in a dedicated server is that it will not be affected by a virus attack on another website even if they use the same server rental company. Virtual separation and firewalls cannot offer much protection against malicious security attacks on a shared server. A dedicated server is also identified by a separate and unique IP address. This allows the website to work faster as it is easily identified. In a shared server all the websites have the same IP address and identifying a specific website could take a fair amount of time.

A dedicated server also offers faster processing speeds as different client websites do not have to share the same RAM, processors and hard disks. This is especially beneficial to financial and banking websites.

Choices in Laptop Rentals

Many start-ups and educational institutions require a large number of laptops in a short span of time. Not only are laptops expensive but they also need to be constantly updated. Renting of laptops is a better option as the rental service provides the latest technology and software for a fraction of the cost of buying laptops. People looking to rent laptops should know the type of rental options available and match their needs with the best rental option.

Short Term Rentals: This is the best option for companies and institutions that hire a lot of free lancers and workers on short contract basis. Although this option is pricier, on a daily basis, than long term rentals; it works out as the better option if companies follow the contract agreement. Short term laptop rental contracts usually last between a day and a month.

For example, training centres that offer short term computer courses to students can go for short term rentals. As the courses offered have fixed time frames, the institution can sign an agreement with the rental service for that amount of time. Strict adherence to this time frame will prevent late fines and fees. Some rental providers also charge on a daily basis rather than a monthly basis. In such cases, companies need not pay a whole months charge in late fees and can pay only for the extra days they have used the rental equipment.

Long Term Rentals: Long term contracts are usually drawn for a time period of 6 months to a year. Long term laptop rentals are cheaper than short term ones on a day-to-day basis. Small businesses are advised to go for long term rental contracts when they start out. As profits grow, these companies can buy their own laptops or can upgrade the rented laptops. As technology changes so rapidly, often in a matter of months, organizations should not sign contracts lasting more than a year.

The M14x includes a range of configurations, which includes an Intel Core i7 3720 QM processor that runs at 3.6GHz along with 6MB of cache. The laptop also includes 8GB of 1600MHz dual channeled DDR3 RAM and a 500GB SATA hard drive.

The Alienware laptop has an Nvidia GeForce GT 650M along with 1GB of memory for videos. The display has a resolution of 1600x900 and is a WLED display. The laptop also features a DVD/RW drive and a Centrino wireless card along with Bluetooth 4.0. With all these configurations and features the laptop is priced at $999.
